Town ponder Rodgers return

Northampton Town are considering the possibility of signing former loanee Paul Rodgers on a permanent basis.

Defender Rodgers spent the second half of last season on loan at Sixfields and has now been released by Arsenal.

The 19-year-old's loan spell with the Cobblers was disrupted by a knee injury, but manager Stuart Gray has offered the youngster a trial to assess his fitness.

"Paul Rodgers has come in and trained very well," revealed Gray.

"We are only running at the moment so I need to see him in a game situation as well.

"He's had surgery on his knee but our physio Stuart Barker is happy with him and he's not been in the treatment room which is pleasing.

"But we need to make sure he is fully fit because the budget is so tight we can't afford to have players injured all the time."
