    Sampson slams Corby player

    19 Jul 2010 - 14:55:58

Northampton Town manager Ian Sampson has slammed Corby midfielder Richard Lavery after his X-rated tackle on Alex Konstantinou left the Cobblers youngster in hospital.

Just six minutes had elapsed in their pre-season friendly when Lavery's heavy challenge saw the Cypriot leave the field on a stretcher.

Although his leg was not broken in the tackle, Konstantinou sustained deep bruising and Sampson was less than impressed with the unsavoury incident.

Speaking to Northampton's Chronicle and Echo, Sampson said: "Fortunately it's just badly bruised but it could have easily been a break.

"It was right on the shin and luckily the shin-pad has helped him out a bit but he's still got a cut on his leg. He's lucky to be walking away.

"Tackles like that don't have a part in any game of football. It was a poor challenge and their player should have been sent off for it. You can't make any excuse for that sort of tackle and we need to have a good look at it this week. He'll certainly be nice and sore."
