Morris spares Cobblers' blushes
Skipper Ian Morris rescued a point for struggling Northampton in a 2-2 draw against Dagenham at Sixfields.
The Cobblers needed their captain to claim a share of the spoils after Zavon Hines and Rhys Murphy had turned the game on its head following Luke Norris' opener.
The hosts started well with Gary Deegan volleying just wide, Darren Carter forcing Chris Lewington to save well and Chris Hackett seeing his free-kick strike the upright. But it took a good save from Matt Duke to thwart Chris Dickson on the counter-attack at the other end.
Northampton broke the deadlock in the 28th minute through Norris on his debut. The on-loan Brentford striker got the final touch to score from close range after Stuart Dallas returned Hackett's corner into the danger area.
Murphy fired over as the Daggers looked for a quick response and the equaliser came in the 39th minute with a superb curling 25-yard effort from Hines.
Northampton went close through Darren Carter who was denied by Lewington but the visitors went in front before the break when Medy Elito's cross was headed home by Murphy.
After the restart Dickson went close to increasing the Daggers' advantage while Deegan tested Lewington with a fierce drive at the other end. But Morris equalised in the 62nd minute with a low angled drive after being released by Dallas.
Both sides went for the winner but Duke and Lewington were relatively untroubled for the remainder of the contest.
