The club was actually formed in 1897 by a group of school teachers.
They went out in the 3rd round of the F.A Cuup in 1970 to manchester united losing 8-2 . 6 of the goals were scored by George Best, who was given the match ball (signed by Northampton players) as a reward for his performances.
