Gray hails outstanding Adebayo

Northampton Town boss Stuart Gray picked out Adebayo Akinfenwa for special praise as the Cobblers began their League One campaign with an impressive 4-2 victory against Cheltenham.

The 26-year-old former Torquay United and Swansea City striker scored two penalties as Gray's side made the perfect start to the 2008-09 season.

A delighted Gray said: "Adebayo made things happen for us throughout the game despite having five stitches in a head wound.

"We were off the pace in the first half and looked nervous and it wasn't until we went behind that we got going.

"But once we equalised I thought we should have taken the lead before the interval. I wanted to hit the ground running and we did in the end."
