First stage nearly complete for Boothroyd

Northampton Town are within sight of safety after their excellent recent form

A narrow defeat at the hands of League Two leaders Swindon Town on Monday brought the Cobblers run to an end but they remain nine points above the relegation zone with only four games left to play.

That means it's nearly 'job done' for Aidy Boothroyd in terms of his short-term priority on taking over at Sixfields from Gary Johnson which was to instill some confidence in a team who had conceded fifteen goals in three league games and been knocked out of the FA Cup by Luton.

The turnaround, while perhaps not quick enough for the ever-ambitious Boothroyd, has come in time to prevent the season ending in nail-biting fashion.

Boothroyd's eagerness to push on was perfectly illustrated by his disappontment with the Swindon reverse, when the Cobblers were more than a match for the champions-elect but lacked the composure needed to convert possession in the final third into chances and goals.

There looks to be no question of a let-up in performance levels in the final four games of the campaign and the target for 2012/13 will surely be set high.
