Cobblers snap up Gilbert

Northampton Town manager Ian Sampson has handed a contract to the former Sheffield Wednesday left-back Peter Gilbert.
The 26-year-old, who was a free agent after leaving Oldham Athletic earlier this season, has penned a contract that will keep him at the Sixfields Stadium until the end of the season.
"I'm sure Peter will do a good job for us," said Sampson. "We've had a good look at him over the last couple of weeks.
"He's a left footer and that helps the balance of the squad. He's a good defender with a lot of experience of playing at a higher level.
"He's a good age with a good degree of experience. We've been looking to strengthen defensively and I'm sure he'll prove to be a good addition."
Gilbert featured in 43 games for Wednesday before being released by the Owls at the end of last season.
