Cobblers recruit striker
19 Jan 2008 - 10:38:53
Northampton Town have snapped up striker Adebayo Akinfenwa on a deal running until the end of the season.
Cobblers boss Stuart Gray has moved quickly to add to his squad after losing top scorer Andy Kirk to Yeovil Town earlier in the week.
The 25-year-old made his name at Torquay United, before Swansea City splashed out £85,000 on him and he went on to score the winning goal in the 2006 Football League Trophy final for the Swans.
However, a broken leg set the London-born striker back and has spent the last two months at Millwall.
Gray told the club's official website that Akinfenwa is by no means replacement for Kirk, saying: "Work on that particular signing is on-going, but he is coming here to increase the options in our squad.
"He is something different to what we have. This is not the end of our recruitment."
