Northampton Town have snapped up veteran midfielder Alex Russell on a month's loan from Bristol City.

The 34-year-old helped the Robins gain promotion to the Championship last season, but has struggled for first-team opportunities in the opening weeks of the new season.

Boss Stuart Gray told the club's official website: "Alex has quality and will bring some experience to the squad.

"He has been there and done it at this level and he will be a big help to the young players we have here.

"He is a winner and has tasted success at this level as recently as last season, playing a big part in Bristol City's promotion. He is still very fit and is a very good passer of the ball."
