Cobblers land Laird

Northampton Town manager Stuart Gray has agreed to sign Manchester City midfielder Marc Laird on a month's loan and allowed Scott McGleish to sign for Wycombe Wanderers.

The 21-year-old Laird has failed to make a first-team appearance for City, but is a regular in the Premiership side's reserves.

"He's been a regular in the first-team squad and has been around the match-day 16 for City for a while now," Gray told the Cobblers' official website.

"He's been unfortunate in that players like Joey Barton and Claudio Reyna have been keeping him out of the Manchester City first-team.

"The next stage of his development is to play league football and hopefully this move will work out well for all parties.

"He is a box-to-box midfield player who is very mobile and has plenty of energy."
