Cobblers hope to keep Hawley

Northampton Town boss Stuart Gray is hoping to extend striker Karl Hawley's loan stay at Sixfields.

Hawley is due to return to parent club Preston North End after Saturday's League One meeting with Oldham Athletic.

The former Carlisle United striker has netted two goals in ten appearances during his two months with the Cobblers.

"I've got to speak to (Preston boss) Alan Irvine," said Gray.

"They've just lost Brett Ormerod with a broken toe, so at the back of his mind I am sure he'll be thinking that he's one centre-forward short.

"But I will have a conversation with him and it will be a last-minute thing.

"Ideally Karl will stay. We want to keep him as we are thin on the ground with players."
