Cobblers clinch Thornton deal

Former Coventry City midfielder Kevin Thornton has joined Northampton Town on a short-term contract.

The 23-year-old left the Sky Blues by mutual consent at the end of last term and has played for Boyne Rovers FC in Ireland and Nuneaton Town this season.

"Kevin's been on trial with us and I've been impressed with him," said Cobblers boss Ian Sampson.

"He's a ball-playing midfield player who can create things. We're willing to give him a chance and an opportunity and I think he's eager to take that chance.

"We're always looking for players we feel will improve the squad and I feel Kevin will do that. He's a good footballer and I'm sure he'll fit in well."
