A breather - and a look at League Two
Northampton Town enjoy a rare midweek away from competitive action after a bust start to the campaign
"It’s been a really hectic start to the season," said defender Kelvin Langmead in the wake of Saturday's goalless draw against Chesterfield.
"We’ve had more games because we’ve got to the second round of the two cup competitions we’ve been in and that has made the fixture list very congested."
Town lie a handy 9th in the League Two after a very solid start to their first full campaign under Aidy Boothroyd with 10 goals scored and 8 conceded in 8 games. This in a division where there have been some very high-scoring matches and where even fancied sides have suffered heavy defeats.
Gillingham lead the way by 6 points after they won the weekend battle of the top two against Port Vale. Manager Martin Allen feels his squad has the strength in depth to cope with the rigours of a long season and was able to make the eye-catching signing of USA international Robbie Findley on loan from Nottingham Forest last week.
Both AFC Wimbledon and Wycombe Wanderers have already parted company with their managers, Gary Waddock leaving the Chairboys after they were beaten on Saturday by the Dons, currently in the caretaker charge of Simon Bassey.
