Who will be Northampton's number one?

Neal Kitson has a chance to be the Cobblers first choice goalkeeper when the season starts

The 26-year-old has been offered a short-term deal after playing his part in Northampton's survival last season and, with Shane Higgs sidelined until October, has been challenged by Aidy Boothroyd to earn a longer contract.

"I’m delighted Neal’s signed," said the Sixfields boss.

Another loan signing between the sticks is surely likely however to provide competition for Kitson when the season begins.

Town used six goalkeepers during the 2011/12 campaign.

One of those was Chris Weale, highly-rated by goalkeeping coach Tim Flowers, subsequently released by Leicester City at the end of the season and snapped up by League One newcomers Shrewsbury last week.
