Thornton eyes festive feast

Northampton midfielder Kevin Thornton wants the hectic festive schedule to provide the foundations for a play-off push at Sixfields. Thornton was on target as the Cobblers beat Stockport on Saturday and although they lie down in 18th place they are just seven points adrift of seventh-placed Wycombe. "There are loads of games coming up at Christmas and December is probably the busiest month you will have as a footballer," he told the Chronicle. "So we're targeting it to go on a bit of a run. We need everybody to stay focused and we're going to have to rely on everybody if we're going to do it. "I don't see why we can't be up there. We've got a great bunch of lads here and we've proved in the cup games that we can compete with the best. "So we just need to believe in ourselves, and get the ball down and play because that's how we'll beat teams in this division."
