Talking Point: Conference To 'Push For Three Up, Three Down'

10 December 2013 08:33
Calls are being made to increase the number of clubs promoted and relegated between League Two and the Conference each season

At present only club automatically makes it into the Football League with another going up via the play-offs while two come down into what is still termed as a non-league division but which is increasingly populated with full-time clubs. As Northampton's FA Cup defeat at Grimsby on Saturday showed there is very little to choose between the teams near the foot of League Two and those towards the top of the Conference.Conference chairman Brian Lee told the BBC Non League Show: "We'll push for three up and three down. It is on the agenda. If the clubs think it is fair and we think it is fair, all we can do is advance our case." http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/25302148Thankfully for Northampton given their season to date, the current system of only two clubs going down remains in place at present!
