Season in a week: Akinfenwa sparks unbeaten run
The Cobblers season took a turn for the better following a 2-2 draw with Cheltenham Bayo Akinfenwa twice hauled Northampton back into the game at Whaddon Road at the start of December to earn a valuable point for a side firmly entrenched in the lower half of League Two. The Cobblers however would not taste defeat again until the middle of February, by which time Ian Sampson's men had hauled themselves into the play-off picture by virtue of an 11-game unbeaten run. Akinfenwa's goals, together with a parsimonious defence which at one stage kept five clean sheets in a row were responsible for this unlikely promotion push.
