Sampson set to boost ranks

Northampton manager Ian Sampson revealed he is making progress as he looks to strengthen his squad, with additions likely over the next seven days. Sampson was speaking after Town`s 1-0 defeat at Gillingham, where Cody McDonald volleyed home the only goal of the encounter just after the half-hour mark. "Fingers crossed we will have another player or two in next week and that will strengthen us considerably," he said. "We are very close to one other deal and we still have another target in our sights. "We will also have Francis Laurent available next week. He has terrific pace and can play down the right or up front and I think he will excite the fans." Laurent will certainly provide a much-needed boost to the Cobblers in the final third, with Sampson left to rue his side`s lack of conviction against the Gills. He said: "It was a good goal (from McDonald) but I thought we could have been better in front of goal. We did not react in those moments when we could have scored."
