Sampson ponders squad options

Northampton boss Ian Sampson will step up his attempts to extend the loan deal of Ben Tozer this week, as well as deciding whether to offer a contract to an unnamed trialist. Newcastle defender Tozer has already spent two months on loan with the Cobblers this season, and that could could be extended by a further month if talks go to plan, while the unnamed trialist, also a defender, could be another option. "We'd like to bring a couple in if we can get the right deals in place," he told the Northampton Chronicle. "Whether that happens remains to be seen. "I'd like to get a striker and a centre-back in. The French lad we've had in has been training with us for a little while and we'll maybe make a decision on him in the next couple of weeks. "It would be a bit of a gamble to take him but he's got good attributes. He's 6ft 4in and he's reasonably quick and those are good qualities to have, you can see he could be a good player. "It's not a necessity to get a centre-back in, we've got Andy (Holt) who can cover there and Marcus (Hall) has probably played his best games there for us. Johnno (John Johnson) can slot in there as well so there's a few things we can do."
