Northampton boss Ian Sampson believes transfer target Shaun Harrad should be convinced to join the club by their willingness to spend money on him.
The Cobblers have so far lodged two bids for the Burton striker who has been frozen out of the team since contract talks broke down but must now wait for a reply from both club and player.
Sampson told the Northampton Chronicle and Echo: "The offer is in with them and we're just waiting on it. I would have thought we'd have to wait until the window opens until we hear about that one."
"Reading between the lines it looks like he wants to wait and see if there is any interest from any clubs in a higher division.
"That's his prerogative. We've gone about it in the right way, in a professional manner and the decision is down to the lad."
