Sampson hails Cobblers character

Manager Ian Sampson paid tribute to Northampton's character after they came from behind to earn a 1-1 draw with Wycombe. Wycombe had led through an Andy Sandell's first-half opener but Kevin Thornton popped up to equalise from the penalty spot. "The players showed a lot of character to get something from the game," said Sampson. "It was an even contest and there was nothing between the two teams but we just can't seem to break our duck at the moment and get that first victory in the League. "I'm sure Wycombe will be thereabouts at the end of the season but we kept plugging away and got our rewards in the end. "Wycombe didn't give us any space and we had to change our game plan but I could see an equaliser coming in the second half and in the end I'm happy to have taken a point."
