Sampson hails battling Cobblers

Northampton manager Ian Sampson was full of praise for his players after they battled to a goalless draw with Port Vale despite having Abdul Osman sent off. The Cobblers were reduced to 10 men just before half-time when Osman was dismissed for a challenge on Anthony Griffith. But they held on in the second half to maintain their mini revival and leave Vale rueing missed opportunities. Sampson said: "I'm delighted to get a point in those circumstances. We can take a lot of pride from that performance, it's a young team and the players all stick together." On the sending off itself, Sampson was sceptical. He added: "The sending off was a harsh decision I thought Abdul Osman won the ball cleanly, the referee was in a poor position and I think his momentum might have carried him through. I asked the fourth official to say something but he didn't."
