Rain Stops Play But Cobblers Edge Closer To Play-Offs

Saturday's results moved Northampton Town closer to a top six finish

Heavy rain caused the cancellation of the Cobblers game at Wycombe Wanderers meaning a midweek trip to Adams Park between now and the end of the season.

It also means that Aidy Boothroyd's side, who now sit in 6th place in League Two, have a game in hand on four of the teams above them.

Automatic promotion then remains a real possibility but, at the very least, a play-off spot is even closer to Town's grasp. Tuesday's draw at Morecambe left a seven point gap to Fleetwood and Oxford and eight to Southend.

None of those three sides won at the weekend meaning both the seven point gap remains and that Fleetwood and Southend have used up their game in hand on Northampton.

It also sets up a huge clash at Sixfields on Saturday against Oxford with a bumper crowd set to be in attendance.

The Cobblers have a strong home record against the U's, check out the full head-to-head record by clicking below.
