Northampton welcome back Paul Anderson

Northampton winger Paul Anderson is available for the visit of Southend at Sixfields.

Anderson, who joined the Cobblers on the final day of the summer transfer window, was ineligible for their EFL Cup defeat against Manchester United having featured in the competition for his previous club Bradford but is in line to start.

Lewin Nyatanga could feature after being dropped to the bench for the cup clash while Gabriel Zakuani and Sam Hoskins will aim to keep their places in the side.

The Cobblers will look to get back in the win column after seeing their 32-game unbeaten league run come to an end against Chesterfield last weekend.

Southend centre-back Anton Ferdinand is available for selection after recovering from a hamstring problem.

The former West Ham and QPR defender was not selected for the Shrimpers' win over Millwall but is pushing for a recall.

Nile Ranger (ankle) remains sidelined while midfielder Anthony Wordsworth could return following a successful rehabilitation from a hamstring injury.

Boss Phil Brown could recall Ryan Inniss, who made the bench against Millwall, after being released from prison following a successful appeal against his original 14-week sentence for assault, which has been suspended for 18 months.
