Richards could make Cobblers return

Marc Richards will be assessed by Northampton after the striker missed their 2-1 win at Shrewsbury on Saturday.

The striker sat out with an Achilles problem but boss Chris Wilder is hopeful he will be available to face Portsmouth.

"We made a decision on Friday, he could have played but we did not want to run the risk of him missing a few game afterwards," he told Northampton Player.

Ivan Toney stands by to deputise again while John-Joe O'Toole remains suspended.

Wes Fogden could make his first appearance of the season for Pompey.

Fogden has been sidelined since damaging knee ligaments during pre-season, but he was an unused substitute for Saturday's 0-0 draw against Oxford and should be in the squad again.

Fellow midfielder James Dunne completes a two-match ban for accumulating 10 yellow cards this season but striker Paul McCallum is available again after a seven-match suspension.

Boss Andy Awford has no new injury concerns as Pompey attempt to extend their unbeaten run to eight matches.
