Northampton V Macclesfield at Sixfields Stadium : Match Preview

03 February 2012 11:01
Carlsile set for Cobblers bow Clarke Carlisle is expected to make his debut for Northampton when Macclesfield visit Sixfields. Town boss Aidy Boothroyd managed to pull off something of a coup on transfer deadline day by bringing the experienced centre-half to the club on loan from Burnley for the remainder of the season. Carlisle, who played under Boothroyd at Watford, should go straight into the starting line up. Ben Harding will start his first game as a fully-fledged Cobbler after his loan from Wycombe was turned into a permanent deal this week. Fellow midfielder Luke Guttridge made his first appearance since rejoining Town on loan against Torquay last weekend and he is likely to keep his place in the team and make his second home debut for the club. Striker Akwasi Asante has returned to Birmingham following his loan spell at Sixfields. Macclesfield forward duo Ben Tomlinson and George Donnelly are on the road to recovery but the trip is expected to come too soon for them. Tomlinson returned to training from a thigh injury this week as he looks to regain full fitness, while Donnelly is progressing well in his rehabilitation from a calf problem. Next weekend's npower League Two clash with Northampton's fellow relegation zone incumbents Plymouth is a more realistic target for the pair, along with on-loan Chesterfield man Dwayne Mattis (ankle). Mattis' fellow midfielders Lewis Chalmers and Sam Wedgbury are two and three weeks away respectively following hernia surgery. Paul Morgan (ankle) will return in a fortnight to supplement a Silkmen defence that is without the suspended Nat Brown. Ross Draper remains a long term absentee with a broken metatarsal.
