Cobblers rue Akinfenwa loss

Northampton will be without leading scorer Adebayo Akinfenwa when they host Aldershot at Sixfields.

Akinfenwa received his fifth yellow card of the season during the 1-1 draw at Torquay last weekend and the 14-goal striker will serve a one-match suspension against the Shots.

Midfielder Ishmel Demontagnac comes back into the reckoning after serving a one-game ban of his own - also for five bookings - at Torquay.

Joe Widdowson is set to return to the squad after a dead leg ruled him out last weekend. The defender travelled to Devon but had to pull out of training the day before the game because of a complication with his injury.

Luke Guttridge is increasing his training after 11 weeks out with a foot injury but the midfielder is not yet ready for first-team action.

Aldershot make the trip missing three first-team players through suspension.

Defender Ben Herd starts a three-match ban after being dismissed in the dying minutes of the Shots' 4-2 win over Rochdale last week.

The captain is joined on the sidelines by midfielder Peter Vincenti and defender Troy Brown, who both picked up yellow cards on Saturday to take their tally for the season to five.

Boss Dean Holdsworth will also have to cope with the loss of Josh Payne, who had his contract terminated after receiving a prison sentence last Friday.

But Holdsworth could welcome back defender Sonny Bradley from illness while striker Guy Madjo is available after his loan spell at Plymouth came to an end last weekend.
