says Cobblers boss

Aidy Boothroyd takes his side to play-off contenders Torquay United on Saturday, with the Gulls having done Northampton a favour by beating second-bottom side Dagenham & Redbridge in their game in hand on Tuesday evening.

Although he has been pleased with how some aspects have improved since he took over, the boss is now very aware that they need to start turning those  improved performances into results as they aim to climb out of the bottom two.

Boothroyd said: “When you’re down there, it doesn’t matter how good a player you are or how good a team you can be – it’s results that count.

“But you don’t get results unless you get consistent performances and that’s what we are working towards. It isn’t that a lighting bolt will come and away we go, it’s going to take a lot of hard work behind the scenes and on the pitch.

“I’m ready for a fight,” said Boothroyd. “I know what it’s all about and I knew that when I came in. I look at the potential of this place, I really enjoy working here and is it a low point? Yes it is, but you have a choice now.

“You either get on with it, put your fists up and get fighting, or you drop them and get knocked out, and I’m certainly not here to be knocked out. We’re going to bounce back from this, definitely.

There could be a familiar face returning to Sixfields during this current transfer window with defender Chris Doig currently on trial at the club. Northampton have also been linked with a move to bring back striker Steve Howard, who is currently with Leicester City.
