What else has been happening this week Andy Holt agreed a new contract at Sixfields after turning down the club's earlier offer and then revealed how close he had been to joining another League Two club. "It went to about 15 minutes of me agreeing, so I was very close to going," he said, quoted in the Chronicle & Echo after the departure of Bayo Akinfenwa allowed Northampton to up their original offer. Akinfenwa meanwhile is hoping that reports of interest from Aberdeen prove to be true. "I've got some good friends in Scotland and they tell me that. I am leaving Northampton to play at a higher level and all interest is welcome," was the big striker's comment. Last season's loan star John Johnson remains a target for Cobblers boss Ian Sampson although the Middlesbrough man will try and impress Riverside supremo Gordon Strachan during pre-season before his future is decided. Next season's League Two fixtures are released on Thursday.
