Matty Lund hat-trick cures Rochdale's away woes

Matty Lund completed a hat-trick as Rochdale twice came from behind to beat Northampton 3-2.

Rochdale had the better of the opening exchanges, Ian Henderson fired wide and Oliver Rathbone shot over.

In between Sam Hoskins saw his effort deflected wide for Cobblers who took a 16th-minute lead when Matt Taylor curled in a 25-yard free-kick which beat Conrad Logan at his near post.

Dale were back on level terms three minutes later when Cobblers failed to clear Joe Bunney's low cross and Lund turned the ball in from close.

Dale got on top but Cobblers had the better chances. Alex Revell had a goalbound header blocked, Taylor flashed another free-kick wide and Jak McCourt shot over.

Dale had a couple of chances before the break. Henderson shot past the near post and Steven Davies headed wide from a good position.

After the restart Logan foiled John-Joe O'Toole with a reflex save but Rathbone missed an easy header for Dale.

Cobblers regained the lead in the 57th minute when substitute Marc Richards sent Sam Hoskins away and he beat the advancing Logan. But Dale equalised in the 63rd minute when Cobblers failed to clear and Lund fired home from 15 yards.

Lund completed his hat-trick four minutes later when he outjumped David Cornell to head home Bunney's cross with Cobblers appealing for a foul on the keeper.

Logan denied Hoskins but Henderson went close to extending Dale's advantage late on.
