Northampton 0-0 Accrington Stanley: Match Report

06 August 2011 20:09
Cobblers and Stanley in stalemate Adebayo Akinfenwa's return to Northampton could not inspire victory as they were held by Accrongton in a stalemate. Kurtis Guthrie thought he had headed the visitors into an early lead but the assistant had his flag raised for offside. Kern Miller was then forced to block Jake Robinson's shot on the line for Stanley after Ashley Corker's free-kick caused problems. Akinfenwa came close to scoring his first goal of his second spell at Sixfields but headed Ben Tozer's long throw inches wide of the target. The Cobblers also then had a goal disallowed early in the second period as Akinfenwa bundled Sean Murdoch over the line. Accrington debutant Craig Lindfield nearly snatched a late winner after being released in the box but Northampton stopper Sam Walker made a smart block at point-blank range to ensure that the Cobblers shared the spoils.
