New signing earns Northampton boss praise

Gary Johnson felt Derek Niven made a big difference to his side on Saturday

The midfielder made his Cobblers debut after signing on loan from Chesterfield and played his part as the home side fought back from the loss of an early goal to earn a point against Rotherham.

"Goals change games and from going behind so early on the crowd got behind the players who put every ounce of their energy into the game," said Johnson.

"The players showed a lot more fighting spirit but it would have been great to have gone away with a win, especially for the supporters who really got behind the side.

"It was a bad mistake by Sam Walker for their goal and it's always difficult against Andy Scott's teams because they make you defend for a lot of the game when they break up play. But Derek Niven gave us something extra in midfield and slotted straight in.

"We're still at the wrong end of the table so there's always pressure on getting results but we'll keep working hard to turn it around and hopefully be at the right end of the table at the business end of the season."
