Leon may debut

Northampton manager Ian Sampson could hand a debut to Leon McKenzie when Southend visit Sixfields. The former Norwich and Coventry striker penned a deal with the Cobblers until the end of the season this week and should play some part - though he is lacking match fitness having not played since being released by Charlton in May. Tadhg Purcell had an operation on his cruciate knee injury on Wednesday evening but is out for the season while left-back Marcus Hall is a fortnight away from returning from a hamstring injury. However midfielder Ryan Gilligan has decided to postpone a planned ankle operation and could feature after training this week without any discomfort. Paul Walker will be back on the bench as cover for goalkeeper Chris Dunn after Oscar Mansion's loan from Spurs ended, while Craig Hinton remains on the sidelines with his knee problem.
