Keep The Home Fires Burning

Northampton Town look to build on their impressive home record against Fleetwood on Saturday

13 league games at Sixfields to date have yielded 8 wins and 2 draws, keeping the Cobblers in the hunt for a play-off place come the end of the season.

Aidy Boothroyd will be keen to put as many points on the board as possible from home games as Town have an imbalance of away fixtures to make up in the new year after the postponement of the Christmas matches at AFC Wimbledon and Gillingham.

And the Northampton boss is pleased that his squad is looking stronger than at any other point of the season with the permanent signing of Clarke Carlisle and the nearing return of fellow defenders David Artell and John Johnson.

“The core of your team is where it all springs from and we’re in a good position there,” Boothroyd told the Chronicle & Echo.

“We could probably do with another centre-forward because our liveliest front player is unfortunately injured at the moment.

“But we are quite strong down the core and that’s how I’ve always wanted it."

Elsewhere in League Two, Plymouth Argyle look set to appoint former Oldham and Chesterfield boss John Sheridan as their new manager while Oxford have made a triple signing in the shape of Justin Richards, Lewis Montrose and Josh Parker.
