Hall: This is the place to be

Northampton defender Marcus Hall snubbed the chance to play football at a higher level in order to sign for the club. Hall had offers to ply his trade in League One this season following his departure from Coventry but the 34-year-old had already pledged to manager Ian Sampson that he would join the Sixfields club. The veteran had been training with the Cobblers since the second day of pre-season but formally signed a one-year deal on Sunday, with the two parties given the option of a second should he play enough games during the new campaign. Hall told the Northampton Chronicle & Echo: "There were a few clubs interested and another club came in at the last minute. But I'd given my word to people here and I wouldn't do that to the manager. "I just wanted to be at Northampton and I was grateful for the opportunity to play. A team in League one came in as well but I'd been training here for a few weeks and I was enjoying it. "This is the place I want to be. We've got some good players here and I think we can have a really successful season."
