Hall in line for Cobblers deal - Sampson

Northampton boss Ian Sampson says Marcus Hall is still top of his list as he looks to find a new left-back to replace Peter Gilbert. Gilbert agreed fresh terms with the Cobblers back in May but missed the deadline to sign the contract and has since joined Southend. Former Coventry defender Hall is currently on trial at Sixfields and Sampson told the club's official website: "Marcus Hall is still on trial but hopefully if we can get everything sorted out then we can get him tied down to a contract. I've still got people ringing me up offering me left-backs but Marcus is the player in the box-seat at the moment. "We are still looking to bring in another striker but the targets we've had have knocked us back so that is a little bit on the back burner at the moment." Sampson has also confirmed some news on the injury front following the 1-0 friendly defeat by Coventry, adding: "We didn't pick up too many knocks on Wednesday night, Paul Rodgers had a bit of cramp and Liam Davis twisted his ankle but that shouldn't be a problem. "Chris Dunn turned his ankle in training and he is possibly going to be out for 10 days. Fingers crossed he will be okay for the start of the season but if not we may decide to have a look at the loan market."
