Neither goalkeeper was seriously tested in a tepid first half in which Stefan Oakes pulled the strings in midfield for Lincoln. It was Oakes who went closest to breaking the deadlock in the 26th minute when his 30-yard free-kick went just over.[LNB]Luke Guttridge was off target with a speculative effort for Northampton while Sergio Torres should have done better five minutes before the break for Lincoln when he raced on to a pass from Oakes but was denied by Chris Dunn.[LNB]Northampton substitute Adebayo Akinfenwa set up Guttridge in the 59th minute but Rob Burch saved well and Ryan Gilligan could only put the rebound wide from a tight angle.[LNB]Akinfenwa went close in the 68th minute when he headed over Andy Holt's long throw in but four minutes later Northampton scored the only goal when a Guttridge free-kick produced a scramble in the box and Guinan netted from 10 yards.[LNB][LNB]
