Guinan open to Cobblers exit

Northampton striker Steve Guinan has refused to rule out leaving Sixfields despite turning down several offers. The 34-year-old has featured heavily in the Cobblers' pre-season programme, scoring twice, but with Tadhg Purcell and Billy McKay set to be Ian Sampson's first-choice pairing come August 7, transfer-listed Guinan could be left in the cold. He has already turned down a number of opportunities to leave the club this summer, but admits that an offer of first-team action could lure him away from Sixfields. "I'm still available for transfer and if there are clubs that want me I'll talk to them," he told the Chronicle and Echo. "I've had a few tentative offers but nothing I'm interested in. "If I end up staying here and playing for Northampton then great, I'll continue to give it 100 per cent every time I'm selected. "I'm happy here but at my age, I'm 34 now, I need to be playing football every week. I've no idea what the side is going to be, but if I'm not in that side or in the squad then I've got to think about myself and about playing first-team football. I need to be playing, so if I move on, I move on."
