Gray's men now sit three points from safety but have two games in hand on the teams above them.
"We still believe we can get out of this situation. The players have to show the same commitment and we will get out of it but we've got to defend better," said Gray.
"We defended poorly for two of their goals when long balls down the middle have caught us out. The players are fighting and scrapping for their lives but we're making too many mistakes at the moment."
