Gilligan poised to battle through again

Northampton midfielder Ryan Gilligan is set to play through the pain barrier once more at Shrewsbury. Gilligan was set for three months on the sidelines when it was announced he would have surgery on an ankle problem but he has decided to postpone the operation and played the full 90 minutes against Southend last weekend. Manager Ian Sampson said: "Ryan Gilligan is looking okay at the moment, he didn't train on Monday but he trained on Tuesday and he is happy to play through the pain. "Like I said last week, fortunately for us Ryan has got the right attitude and it's nice to see that in the modern game." Kevin Thornton came off the bench to inspire that victory and will be hoping to start while Leon McKenzie should continue up front after a bright debut last weekend. Tadhg Purcell had an operation on his cruciate knee injury last week but is out for the season while left-back Marcus Hall is a fortnight away from returning from a hamstring injury. Defender Craig Hinton remains on the sidelines with his knee problem.
