Cup tie boosts Cobblers finances

Northampton chairman David Cardoza has revealed that the Carling Cup trip to Liverpool will balance the budget for the season. Ian Sampson`s men will travel to Anfield at the end of September for a cup tie which could bring in over £250,000 to the League Two club`s coffers. Cardoza said: "I don't yet know how much the game will be worth to us financially and a lot depends on what the ticket prices are and whether or not the game is on TV. "We have worked really hard over the last few years to sort out the financial side of the club and this draw means that we are now covered for money for the rest of this season. "It keeps our head above the water for the foreseeable future and going into next season we will be self-sufficient which is fantastic. "I am sure we will take a good few thousand fans up to Anfield and we deserve it."
