Crosby gives Sampson his backing

The Cobblers parted company with Stuart Gray earlier this month after a poor start to the season and have yet to appoint a replacement, leaving Sampson to take temporary charge of the side alongside Crosby and goalkeeper coach Jim Barron. Sampson has overseen two defeats since taking charge, but Crosby has given his colleague his full backing to take the job. He told the Northampton Chronicle: "Without a doubt he can be the manager here. "You only get these jobs if the players go out there and perform. If the lads go out there and give their all and start winning a few games then why shouldn't Ian be the manager?" The former Middlesbrough assistant also said believes it is important the trio help each other out whilst they are in charge, adding: "To have a helping hand is always a good idea. You need someone alongside you because you can bounce ideas off each other and that's important."
