Aidy Boothroyd's wait for his first game as Cobblers boss ends at the weekend when Davis brings his Crewe Alexandra side to Sixfields.
And Davis admits he is 'surprised' both by the position Northampton find themselves in and the appointment of Boothroyd.
"Aidy is an experienced manager and he did exceptionally well at Watford," he told his club's official website.
"He will have them fit, organised and looking to move up the table."
