Cobblers VersusManchester City

01 April 2013 14:59
A monthly series for 2013 looking at Town's meetings with the big names in English football

Northampton Town have met the reigning champions on six previous occasions

The teams met four times in the second division in the 1960's, Town doing the double over the Citizens in 1964/65 en route to their sole season in the top-flight.

Then, after City's fall from grace in the late 1990's they met again in Division Two albeit this time it was the third tier of English football.

Goals from Dean Peer and Carlo Corazzin secured a 2-2 draw for the Cobblers at Sixfields in September before a goalless draw at Maine Road in early March. At the end of the campaign both sides left the division but by different routes as Town returned to the basement division.
