Northampton have had the better of their six meetings with Aston Villa, winning three and drawing one.
As with many of the big names in the game, the Cobblers only league fixtures against the Birmingham giants came in their sole top-flight season of 1965/66 and they defied their general form of that campaign to do the double.
January 1983 saw the last meeting of the two sides as Villa, then holders of the European Cup, came to the County Ground for an FA Cup tie that was settled by a single goal for the visitors.
