Cobblers undone by double act

Chesterfield's prolific strikeforce of Craig Davies and Jack Lester fired the runaway League Two leaders to a 2-1 home victory over Northampton. Davies notched his 21st goal and Lester bagged his 11th of the season before John Johnson headed a late reply for Gary Johnson`s visitors. The Spireites threatened to brush Town aside in the opening minutes but top scorer Davies somehow missed an open goal, firing over an empty net from four yards. A great block on the line from Johnson stopped Danny Whitaker from putting the home side ahead in the 13th minute, although the Cobblers recovered to end the half on top. Kevin Thornton sliced a shot wide from a good position and Northampton started the second half confidently before Chesterfield struck in the 64th minute. Lester slipped past three challenges to fire in a low shot which Chris Dunn could only parry into the patch of Davies who made no mistake. And Lester himself then got in on the act as he smashed in a second in the 69th minute, leaving Johnson`s 82nd-minute header from a corner merely consolation.
