Cobblers stun Liverpool to force extra time

22 September 2010 21:53
There was nothing to separate the two sides after 90 minutes at Anfield. The Cobblers more than matched a Liverpool side containing the likes of Daniel Agger, Ryan Babel and goalscorer Milan Jovanovic over the 90 minutes of normal time and were rewarded with Billy McKay's equaliser 10 minutes into the second half. Summarising the game for BBC Radio 5 Live, ex-Liverpool star Jan Molby had this to say: "Since the Northampton goal, they have been all over Liverpool, putting them under all sorts of pressure. They are the better team at the moment, I cannot believe it." The stats at the end of 90 minutes tell a proud story for manager Ian Sampson, his side having had more attempts at goal and more corners than their illustrious hosts. More to come on a historic night for Northampton on Cobblers Mad.
