The club have also activated a clause in top scorer Adebayo Akinfenwa's contract to keep him at Sixfields while captain Chris Doig, Leon Constantine, Colin Larkin and Greg Taylor have been released. Discussions will continue over Ikechi Anya while Liam Dolman has been invited to return to pre-season training with the club on July 1 and he may be offered a contract then. Gray said: "It is never an easy decision, and of course we wish those players moving on all the best and thank them for their efforts. "We are sorry to see some excellent servants of the club depart, but the bottom line is we have not been good enough this season and we need to change things around and freshen things up. We need to create room in the squad to bring new faces in. "I am looking to put together a squad that is good enough to win promotion back to League One at the first attempt, and while we know that will not be easy it is within our capabilities. We have a good nucleus of players already under contract for next season and the aim over the summer will be to add to that and to build a squad capable of taking us straight back up."
