Cobblers look left

Northampton boss Ian Sampson is set to run the rule over a trialist left-back during Saturday's pre-season friendly at Long Buckby. Sampson is on the lookout for a replacement for Peter Gilbert, who left last week to join Southend. Town will field two different XIs so youth-teamer Charlie Death is likely to play one half with a trialist playing the other. "I'm sure we'll find someone," Sampson told the Northampton Chronicle. "If I haven't got somebody in by Saturday then Charlie Death from the youth team can fill in for us at left-back. "He's been training with the first team anyway, but we might well have a trialist on board by then. You get rid of one and all of a sudden you're inundated with people ringing you up about left-backs, but it will be about getting the right one at the right price."
