Cobblers Beat The Rain For Welcome Win

Saturday's big game at Sixfields

Having survived a pre-match pitch inspection, Northampton's home game against Aldershot was one of only two League Two fixtures to survive the wet weather on Saturday afternoon.

Town were without the suspended Bayo Akinfenwa against Dean Holdsworth's struggling Shots but welcomed back Ishmel Demontagnac after his ban and the former Walsall man had an early chance to score.

Akinfenwa's absence was felt, however, in a first-half that saw no goals and that led to a chance for Jake Robinson, introduced into the fray after the break with Demontagnac making way.

So often on the fringes of the Cobblers season, Robinson announced his arrival in style by breaking the deadlock on 49 minutes.

Chris Hackett was a constant danger to the visitors while Shots' keeper Jamie Young performed well as Northampton attempted to make the game safe which they eventually did through Clive Platt to secure a welcome three points from another solid home display.
